Bitcoin loan rates by lender (October 2026)

Most U.S. bitcoin-backed loans under $250,000 cost between 8.75% and 11.49% APR in October 2026, for a one-year loan at about 50% loan-to-value (LTV). Lower rates exist, but they usually require a larger loan, a lower LTV, or a variable rate. Every figure below comes from each lender's own published pricing, checked on October 26, 2026.

The rate is only part of the cost. How fees are charged, when interest is paid, and what happens if bitcoin falls can matter as much as the headline number. This guide covers all three.

APR includes interest and fees, so it is the better number for comparing lenders. Coinbase and Unchained are not directly comparable: Coinbase's rate floats with an onchain lending market, and Unchained's minimums start well above $250,000.

Rates for larger loans

Most lenders cut rates as the loan size grows. These are the lowest published rates and the loan size each one requires.

LenderLowest published APRWhat it takes
Arch7.25%Loans of $10 million or more (custom quote); 8.24% for $2M to $5M
SALT7.49%Any loan size, at 30% LTV for one year

If you plan to borrow more than $250,000, ask each lender for a quote at your exact amount. The tiers above change the comparison a lot at larger sizes.

What a $100,000 bitcoin loan costs for one year

The same loan at each lender's published APR for loans under $250,000. At 50% LTV, every one of these loans needs about $200,000 in bitcoin as collateral.

Milo10.75%$10,750
Strike (interest at maturity)11.25%$11,250
Ledn11.49%$11,490

These are simplified estimates: APR multiplied by $100,000. Your actual cost depends on when fees are charged, whether you repay early, and your final quote.

How bitcoin loan rates are set

Five things move the rate you are offered.

  1. Fees. Some lenders charge an origination or administration fee of 1% to 2% on top of interest. APR captures it; the interest rate alone does not.
  2. Loan size. Larger loans usually qualify for lower tiers. At several lenders the difference between a $100,000 loan and a $2 million loan is two percentage points or more.
  3. Loan-to-value. Borrowing less against the same bitcoin lowers the lender's risk. SALT, for example, charges 7.49% APR at 30% LTV and 8.75% at 50% LTV.
  4. Payment timing. Paying interest monthly is usually cheaper than paying it all at the end, because the lender waits less for its money. Strike charges 0.75 points more for interest paid at maturity.
  5. Fixed or variable. Most centralized lenders fix the rate for the term. Onchain markets such as Morpho, which powers Coinbase's loans, change rates as supply and demand change.

What to compare beyond the rate

A cheaper rate can come with terms that cost more when the market moves. Before you choose a lender, check these:

  • Margin call level. At what LTV does the lender ask you to add collateral or repay? A lender that gives you a margin call before it sells anything gives you time to act.
  • Liquidation terms. At what LTV is your bitcoin sold, and what fee is charged? Coinbase's Morpho loans liquidate automatically at 86% LTV with a 4.38% penalty.
  • Custody and rehypothecation. Who holds your bitcoin, and can they lend it out? Collateral that is never rehypothecated stays available to be returned to you.
  • Term and renewal. What happens when the term ends? Ask whether you can extend, and on what terms.
  • Credit checks and eligibility. Some lenders check credit; others look only at collateral. Availability also varies by state.

How to compare two loan quotes

  1. Ask each lender for a quote at the same loan amount, LTV and term.
  2. Compare APR, not the interest rate.
  3. Check whether interest is paid monthly or at maturity, and price both if offered.
  4. Write down the margin call and liquidation LTVs, and any liquidation fee.
  5. Confirm who holds your bitcoin and whether it can be rehypothecated.
  6. Check what happens at the end of the term.

Frequently asked questions

What is a typical bitcoin loan rate in 2026?

For a U.S. loan under $250,000 at about 50% LTV, published APRs range from 8.75% to 11.49% in October 2026. Larger loans, lower LTVs and variable-rate onchain loans can be cheaper.

Should I compare the interest rate or the APR?

The APR. It includes fees such as origination or administration charges, so it shows the full yearly cost. Two loans with the same interest rate can have APRs a percentage point or more apart.

Why is paying interest at maturity more expensive?

The lender waits a full year for its interest instead of collecting it monthly, so it charges more. At Strike, for example, the difference is 0.75 percentage points on loans under $250,000.

Do bitcoin loans require a credit check?

It depends on the lender. Milo does not run a credit check for its crypto loans; approval is based on your collateral, a valid U.S. ID and a U.S. bank account. Other lenders set their own requirements.

What happens if the price of bitcoin falls?

Your LTV rises. If it reaches the lender's margin call level, you are asked to add collateral or pay down the loan. If it keeps rising to the liquidation level, the lender can sell some of your bitcoin to repay the loan. Each lender sets its own levels, so compare them before you borrow.

Is borrowing against bitcoin taxable?

In the U.S., taking out a loan is generally not treated as selling your bitcoin. A liquidation of collateral can be a taxable sale. Tax rules depend on your situation, so check with a tax professional. Our guide on how crypto loans affect your taxes covers the basics.
